Sunrise Worcester Spearheading Virtual Earth Day 50th Anniversary
From April 22 – the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day – to April 24, activists, performers, thought leaders, and artists worldwide will come together for Earth Day Live, an empowering, inspiring, communal three-day livestream mobilization. Sunrise Movement Worcester, the local hub of the National Sunrise Movement, is spearheading three days of climate action in Central Mass.
The fights against the coronavirus and the climate crisis go hand-in-hand, and as we work to flatten the curve of this pandemic, we must at the same time continue to strive toward the goal of building a society rooted in sustainability and justice. ted in sustainability and justice.
Normally a happening of this scale would find us gathering together in cities everywhere to demand climate action through marches, rallies, art builds, actions, and trainings. This year, however, is anything but normal.
Instead of mass protests, activists of all ages are coming together for Earth Day Live, a three-day livestream advocating for action to fight the global climate crisis. This virtual event will include training sessions, performances, and appearances to keep attendees engaged, informed, and inspired. We’ll hear keynote presentations by local community and political leaders, leaders of indigenous communities, youth activists, and more.
Each day, from 12-1 PM EST and 7-8 PM EST, we invite you to virtually attend one of our Earth Week events, including teach-ins, presentations, and concrete political actions that we will engage in together. Topics will include Environmental Justice, University and Corporate Divestment, Voter Registration, a Green Stimulus, and much more.
